Look What the Cat Dragged In

Three more of the mama goats have kidded since I last posted. The baby count is now five new doelings and three bucklings born on the farm recently. Some may wonder with adorable new baby goats on the ground, why am I posting pictures of snakes? I actually think snakes are very cool but I also haven't had a chance to go through the new baby pictures yet and pick some out to post. I will do that very soon though! I did however come in the house today after being outside with the new mother goats to take a short break. I sat down in my chair and happened to notice this little worm snake sitting on the living room floor. They are harmless snakes that spend their time under rocks and underground eating earthworms. So what was he doing on my living room floor? I don't have any proof but Lily the cat looked very guilty. He didn't appear to be injured, so after a quick picture he was released unharmed back outside. I hope he found his way under the house or someplace warm. Good luck little snake!

Shudder, shudder, SHUDDER! Spiders don't scare me, I don't flinch at wasps or bees, but man don't get near me with a snake! You are a brave woman. Shudder.

Good Morning Jennifer, Can't wait to see pics of the new babies. My cats bring me occasional surprises too! Hope you have a wonderful Monday.

I'm surprised that little snake isn't still in hibernation. With the warm up around here, I'm waiting to see the first snake. They'll be hungry and on the move.

Its funny when they have that guilty look on their faces isn't it. Cats are so intelligent. I would have freaked to have a snake harmless or not in the house!

Mom never hurt a snake, except for rattlers (this was in Florida), and I remember her rescuing at least one snake from our cat. I've picked up many, as well!

Congrats on all the babies - can't wait to see the pictures.

I like snakes too but we usually get Rattlers here. Warm weather starts the season and I'm not looking forward to it.Is my new cat going to go for the big snakes too? Do you ever get Rattlesnakes?

Can't wait to see photos of the new babies.

Oh, baby goats! In a few months, we'll have a buck over for a month or so and hopefully we'll have a litter of goat kids after summer!

Oh, phew! I thought that was some kind of internal parasite you were holding up there with that clamp! Snakes are much more acceptable.

Maybe the snake and cat had negotiated a truce: she would let him warm up in the living room, and he would bring her worms and bugs to play with. Humans ruin everything ... haha

thank you for being one of the few people who don't act ridiculous over a little snake.

I took a shower this morning with a spider in the shower floor. He was off to the edge, and I thought he could go back to doing what he was doing when I finished.

I hate people who kill to be killing.

Oh that is funny. I think my dogs would have taken care of any snake that found its way into the house!

I am just like you.... if I could have caught it, I would have released it unharmed outside. I fear that Hubby would not do the same. :-(

Hope your weekend was uneventful as far as the kidding goes, and that the weather didn't give you too much grief!! Look forward to the pics of the lil ones. :)

I'm surprised they are out so early. We have snow and cold, but a snake brings promise of warmer weather!

Farmlady - to answer your question, yes there are rattlesnakes in this area. I found a large skin off of one in the pasture one time so I know they are around but I have never seen a live one on the farm. Now copperheads we DO have and I have seen several on the farm over the years. Not a snake to be messed with for sure!
