The Last Snow - Farm Photo of the Week

My horse, Lakota in the falling snow. This picture was taken earlier in the week and was likely the last snow we will see here until next winter. I have owned Lakota since she was born and she will be 18 years old this month. Shiloh Prairie Farm was named after her mother Shiloh.

I am glad we haven't gotten much snow here lately, it is gorgeous out right now, nice picture! My brother and sister-in-law got the snow on Sunday, they're in Northern Atlanta, our March came in like a lamb while their March came in like a lion, LOL.

I sure hope we just had our last snow. Give that poor horse a treat :-)

My horses give me that look too. Like, "Please make it stop!"
I believe we had our last snow this past Monday. Or atleast I hope so. Usually, when we get late snow, it can mean, a bunch of snow.

Thanks for stopping in!

Beautiful photo! I love the snow. I'm from Utah and here in Virginia I never get enough.

Wonderful picture. We've had very little snow but lots of cold this winter. That's okay with me though since I didn't get all the wind breaks up before winter. The two snow storms we did have the drifts blocked us in. :D

Lakota looks pretty good in all her 18 year old glory. It is such a rare thing to be able to enjoy animals we love so long, and then enjoy the young of our precious animals. Truly a blessing!

I see we both use the same type of fancy fencing. Those livestock panels are pretty handy, aren't they? Mine is also decorated with baling twine. Practical AND decorative, works wonders in a pinch.

Wouldn't be nice if that is the last of the snow. What a pretty horse!

She is a nice looking horse! Breathe of sigh of relief, spring is on the way (so it seems)!

I didn't know you had a horse also.We had 3 at one time. I know what "eats like horse" means, first hand.
So give us a list of all critters you have on your farm.

Kidding time is getting close for your farm. Good luck! and Thanks for the help you gave me with ours.

Snow, I cannot think of anything that: I look forward to as much, I miss so terribly when I don't get it, can make me ecstatic when it does come, and I can get so crabby over when it comes again or finally but too late. All that to say, I hope this is not one of the springs that we get snow in April!

I am going to miss snow and winter months. I just love bundling up and doing chores to come back inside to the warmth of the woodstovee and a hot cup of tea or cocoa. I am not a hot summer weather person. I love the photo of your horse.

What a beautiful horse. Thanks for visiting this morning. We had snow here in GA over the weekend - the only snowfall this winter and hopefully Spring is on its way now!

Hi, I am actually posting a response to your chicken blog. We have been raising 7 breeds of chicks so far (we're on day 10) and out of all them my favorites so far are the LIGHT BRAHMAS. My second favorite is the BUFF ORPINGTONS. The Light Brahmas get up to 12 pounds, lay eggs straight through the winter and when I pick one up, they are even more docile than the Buffs. I like the Buffs because they are also docile and so far seem to be a healthy breed. Next time I order more, I am going to stick with a combo of these breeds. I did get two Ameraucanas and so far one of them is very bossy and the other has a broken leg and is half the size of her sister. But I am looking forward to those easter eggs!

We ordered from McMurray Hatchery. I think we had to order a minimum number but we were allowed to order in pairs which gives a chance to try a few breeds out. I got pairs of the following: Americanas, Light Brahmas, Lakenvelders, Anconas, Golden Polish and then the rest were the Orpingtons. How many are you going to get?

The Orpingtons are known for being a good meat bird as well as layers.

I am tired of snow. Rain I can live with if it doesn't go on forever. What I am enjoying is the spring weather. Sometimes dry, sometimes wet, sometimes windy! I just feel all new myself!

Thank you for that. Keep the gorgeous photography coming!

That pic is so cool, with the snow seeming to hang in the air. And Lakota is beautiful. Thanks for sharing Shiloh's history with us! She and her baby are lucky girls!

Lakota is beautiful, but she also looks as if she's saying, "Enough already!" My cat gave me that same look after Diane's last visit before heading home to Iowa. She brought Pete - my 3rd granddog - so I could finally meet him. As soon as they left, Emma came out from her hiding post, sat in MY chair at the kitchen table and gave me That Look.

I know you're really anxious for an end to the snow and the beginning of Spring, but I was thrilled that Atlanta finally got snowfall on Sunday.

How interesting, your blog in general, but also that Lakota's mom's name was Shiloh. That was my Appie mare's name when I was a kid. :)
