Embarrassed by a Tomato

Leave it to my dear husband to find this tomato in our garden. Some kind of weird mutant butt fruit. (As I think to myself, "Sure you think it is funny now but what kind of Google searches is this blog going to turn up in after using the term butt fruit in it". Eww)
Butt...err but how does it taste? I figured since our fresh garden zucchini is proudly goat approved I would let the bucks put this tomato to the taste test as well.

The bucks took their task of farm food critic seriously and tried that first bite of tomato.

As you can see on the video, the bucks tried the tomato. They are clearly contemplating this tomato a great deal with that first bite, trying to decide if they really like it. They don't rush to judgment. In the end I think their verdict was this particular tomato tastes about like what it looks like.

Goats have a false reputation for eating anything and this is simply not true. They can in fact be quite persnickety about their food and water. It must be clean and fresh as it should be and it is common for goats to prefer one type of grain or mineral over another. Our spoiled goats even prefer certain colors or types of water buckets over others. These goats love their green and blue buckets but will only drink out of the same type of clean red or pink buckets if they have too and they hate to drink after the slobber monster Dudley the dog. You can practically see the disgust on their faces if they walk up to the water bucket after he has dripped drool in it while slopping up a drink. So if you see us at the farmers market, don't judge our tomatoes too harshly by these two food critics, they are after all quite picky but I do promise there won't be any mutant butt fruits at our farmers market table.

OH, boy - you had me giggling out loud this morning! The boys definitely showed their opinion of the butt tomatoes! I especially loved watching their tongues - looks like they're trying hard to get rid of the taste!!

HAHAHA!!! I love goats! they are so funny :-) I love how greedy they are about food...the first one leaned over like, "oh is that one for me too?" even though it's being handed to the other goat.

You're too funny! I had no idea goats would be so picky! Handsome goats in the video!

butt fruit! butt fruit! hee hee hee....

As I scrolled down to the 2nd picture, I was kind of hoping it was gonna be your hubby's hand holding up the fruit to cover your backside from a distance.

butt fruit, butt fruit!!

Oh, this is so funny. I live with this too. It's so interesting to see what they will take and what they don't want any part of. I just love them anyway.
That's a really funny tomato. Thanks for showing us the "butt" tomato. I didn't know of this variety. LOL.

Those bucks are impressively handsome, and at least they tasted the pieces of tomato more than once.

I do remember my goats being some of the most persnickety eaters, and what big babies if they had to step out in wet grass or rain! Goats have so much personality and are fun. Never a dull moment around the farm with goats...or sheep and chickens.

We have some embarrassing carrots to add to your butt tomato!

i love it!

BUTT FRUIT!!!!!

I thought you might be going into testicle territory, but on second glance, butt fruit it is!

LOVE, love, love the video of the goats sampling the tomato. At first they liked it, then... not so much. Meh. And moved on. How funny is that?

I always have so much fun reading your posts, Jennifer. And the audio visuals just add so much texture.

Thanks for giving us so much.

PS: Nice manicure for a goat lady.

That is so funny! At our local agricultural show last week, there was a class for the funniest misshapen vegetable. There were some truly hilarious entries, especially a carrot that was a perfect representation of drooping male 'bits', but the prudish elderly ladies judging the horticultural classes, ignored all the rude entries, and instead awarded first prize to a potato with a couple of leaf sprouts :(

My goodness those boys are handsome! They are very polite too - not like me when I think I'm going to get a tasty treat! We had a tomato here that looked like a PIZZLE. No one wanted to eat that either. Goat kisses from Isobelle!

Looks like butt fruit to me! tee hee
Cute video. Don't take much to satisfy their tomato taste.
I'm sure they were hankering for a cookie after that.

butt fruit! :-)

After being around my goats, I started wondering if when people say goats will eat anything, that the goats were starving. They just throw out the goats and don't feed them any grain or hay.

LOL too funny!

Our goats will only drink from a red bucket! We tried a green one and they didn't want any part of it. The horse won't drink from it either - only the red bucket.

the faces say it all really. lol
I can see your goats becoming judges of tomatoes on the world circuit..like cheese and wine judges.
They are such personalities

Mom L - I think that is one of the reasons I like goat so much, they are quite comical animals at times.

Kathie - Yes, goats are very food greedy animals. We have one doe that is so fat right now I believe we are going to have to put her on a diet before we can breed her to the buck but she always acts like she is starving when she sees the feed bucket. You should check out the "Feeding Pen Chaos" video I posted if you really want to see some grain greedy goats!

Nancy & Jennifer - Thank you!

Flartus - Haha that would have been funny.

Farmlady - thank you!

KathyB - Didn't you know goats are made out of sugar and will melt if they get a drop of water on them? At least that is what THEY think! hehe

d - Thanks!

Pricilla - I am hearing a lot about these carrots...I had no idea they were such a perverted vegetable. haha

Alix - Thank you Alix! Oh those are my husbands hands...he is the one that found the butt tomato and proudly proclaimed it the butt tomato.

Danielle, More x-rated carrots? What is with this vegetable? How funny!

Isobelle - I bet that was interesting and kind of gross.

Twisted - Thank you. I am sure they would have loved a cookie. They sure decided that tomato wasn't really as good as they thought it was going to be.

Joanna - Mine do a great job of cleaning up weeds but they won't just eat anything like what people think. You would not believe how many people have asked me if goats really eat tin cans.

Amy - Thank you

Statch - Thanks for commenting on my blog! How funny that our goats prefer their blue buckets over the red one and yours is just the opposite! Too bad you live so far away we could trade and then both of our goats would be happy with their preferred color of water bucket. hehe

Aussiemade - What a funny thought. Did you hear they snorting and spitting? They definitely give their honest opinion on food!

i am more of a veggie butt lover myself!!!! hehe!!! can't fool those goatlings....they want only the good stuff. that is so funny about their buckets.

You can't beat a good butt fruit...well I guess according you your goats you can.

Great post!

I had an odd tomato last week, it looked like it had too much viagra so there was just no way I was going to take a picture of that!

Magaly Guerrero said...

You know, if you really look at the tomato on the second picture, you could come up with a different name. One that would probably be as controversial on Google searches and your husband might not find as funny. Okay, I'm stopping now. I'll just blame it on you; posting such insinuating pics lol!

I can't get over how adorable these goats are. I am in love with their ears. Thanks for checking out my site today!

How funny! Your goats cracked me up. My goats won't touch tomatoes! We even had some plants "accidentally" growing in their pen, and they never touched them (they turned out even more beautiful than my garden tomatoes, by the way).

Oh, boy is that ever so true! Dog drool in the water is ick. The cats won't drink after Fuzzy either! And I don't blame them!

That is so funny, I loved how their tongues were going in and out as they decided they didn't want anymore. I thought goats would eat anything because when I was a child they tried to eat my pony tail in the petting zoo.

For some reason, I've been getting lots of those butt tomatoes this year. I did think goats would eat anything but now I've know more.

Jennifer you won the business cards in my giveaway. Email me your email address so I can send it to the company. If I don't hear from you before Wednesday I will have to draw another name. I don't want to do that!!!

Anyway congrats!

Our goats would literally eat or drink ANYTHING. You have smarter goats. LOL

Butt fruit. Hilarious!
I truly thoughts goats DID eat everything! At a petting zoo one time when I was in my early twenties, a goat started eating my shirt!!

hehe I love the "persnickity" look on thier faces! We tend to only think humans can "pull a face", but animals so do it too!

That's hilarious! I am very curious on your search stats as well. I had a post titled "foot frenzy" and you can imagine the crazy searches that were used where my poor son's foot painting showed up!! Happy SITS day!

This is silly :). I never knew goats were picky. Thanks for the lessons.

Marie said...

Usually the uglier the tomato the better tasting it is. ;)

I didn't realize that goats were picky with their food like you said I thought the complete opposite..Who knew? ;)

The butt tomato made me laugh!

My son came in while I was watching the video and said, "Why are they feeding those goats tomatoes? Don't they know goats don't like tomatoes?" Funny.

Hope you had a great SITS day!
