Introducing "Black Velvet" to the farm and yes, she is as soft as she looks. I got the idea to name some of the new kids I will be keeping this year after favorite songs, so of course this pretty doeling had to be named Black Velvet. How often do I get the chance to name a goat after such a favorite song of mine. "Black Velvet" was number one on the charts in 1990 which dates me a bit, but it is still a great song.Almost as good as the "Goats in the pasture" song.

Oh gosh, I am so in love with that little goatie. I remember that song, reminds me of wearing those little cut off cowboy boot shoes (remember those in the early 90's?), black leather jacket and torn jeans and drinking sloe gin fizzes on a Saturday night. Good times.

Hello, I have just spent the most enjoyable hour (and an hour is all I'm confessing to) reading your blog.
If you haven't gotten your chicks yet I'll throw in my 2 cents. I love our Arucanas (Americanas) finding those green and blue eggs in the nest boxes. My first dark brown egg layers were Cuckoo Marans and since then I've gotten Black and Copper Marans. All lay nice dark eggs but are a bit tempermental. I have Welsumers that are so sweet even the roos. My Barnvelders didn't do well in the harsh NY winter.
The best year round egg layers have been RI and New Hampshire Reds and Dominiques. (My spelling isn't the best).

Oh my! She's gorgeous. Not a speck of any other color either. Amazing. She'd be a good match with my Kevin who is ALMOST all white - just a few black patches - except that poor Kevin has been wethered. Poor, poor Kevin.

what a beauty! we don't have any females yet. just 2 billy goats and a whether. we had such a hard time keeping them in that i'm not sure we will ever get more! we'll see though. :)
She is adorable and you MUST buy her a pink collar! Trust me, black velvets look amazing in pink!!
Sorry to hear you say you will be keeping her because as soon as I saw her picture I called "road trip" to the girls! Now that goat would be worth changing Dirt's mind about getting goats again!
